One of the league's most exciting young players, Dan Brouthers of the Louisville Racers earned himself Northern League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.
For the week the 23-year-old first baseman had a lofty .379 average (11-29), collecting 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
Brouthers is currently batting .320 with 35 home runs and 96 RBIs.

 | Wednesday, July 29th, 2009: Dahlen Belts 3 HRs
Bill Dahlen was in a home run mode today at Cougar Field. The Charlotte shortstop massacred Racers pitching, cracking out three home runs and going 4-4 with 4 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. But this sensational performance didn't really matter. Louisville won the ballgame 6-5 despite the three homers.
"I wish a big 'W' had come with this," he said. "It's great to hit three homers, but the bottom line is whether you win or lose."
Nonetheless, Dahlen will now have a place in the league record book.
"I guess when you're hot, you're hot," he said. "I'm not going up there trying to hit home runs. I put the good part of the bat on it and luckily three of them went out today."
B. Dahlen hit a solo-shot off N. Cuppy in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off N. Cuppy in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off N. Cuppy in the 5th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
This year Dahlen is batting .244 with 81 hits, 9 home runs, 36 RBIs, 33 walks, .310 OBP and has scored 53 runs.

 | Tuesday, July 28th, 2009: Hines and Oswalt Fight, Suspended 4 Games
Yesterday at Cougar Field a spat between Paul Hines of the Charlotte Cougars and Roy Oswalt of the Louisville Racers ended with the both benches clearing as players rushed to protect their teammates.
Today, the incident ended with the league suspending both Hines and Oswalt for 4 games for their fight.
This season Hines has hit at a .280 clip with 67 RBIs, 16 home runs and 49 runs scored. He has played in 92 games.
So far this season Oswalt has a record of 11-5 with 142 strikeouts and 38 walks in 171.2 innings and a 4.09 ERA.
