Breaking News Wednesday, August 26th, 2009: 3-Game Suspensions for Hinske-Baldwin Fight After an intense confrontation, both the Knights Eric Hinske and the Strummers Lady Baldwin were handed their punishments today. The league commissioner's office issued suspensions for an on-the-field conflict that occurred at a recent New Orleans-Memphis game. Both players will miss 3 games as a result of their actions. "Sometimes we go too far and have to pay the consequences," Eric Hinske commented later. "Hopefully cooler heads will prevail the next time we play." Thus far in 2009 Hinske is batting .241 with 6 home runs, 35 RBIs and 33 runs scored. So far this year Baldwin has compiled a 15-10 record with a 3.33 ERA. Monday, August 17th, 2009: SL Player of the Week Named His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Oscar Charleston was rewarded with the Southern League Player of the Week honors. The scrappy Memphis Strummers center fielder hit .500 while collecting 8 hits in 16 at-bats, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. So far this year Charleston has hit .343 with 16 home runs, 92 RBIs and 87 runs scored. Wednesday, August 12th, 2009: Childs out 4 Weeks The Memphis Strummers will lose the services of second baseman Cupid Childs after he sustained a fractured thumb while colliding with a player at a base in today's game against the Chicago Hitmen. "I'll get through it," Childs said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 4 weeks. This year Childs has socked 119 hits in 409 at-bats for a .291 average with 8 home runs. He is getting on base at a .408 pace and his totals also include 39 RBIs and 93 runs scored.
