So far in his young career, Sam Thompson has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Southern League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 25-year-old New Orleans Knights right fielder hit at a torrid .476 clip as he collected 10 hits in 21 at-bats, 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
In this current campaign Thompson is hitting at a .346 clip with 33 home runs and 103 RBIs.

It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Elmer Flick, the Indianapolis Engines 22-year-old right fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for Northern League Player of the Week honors.
He ripped 12 hits in 25 at-bats, compiling a .480 average with 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.
This year Flick has hit 16 home runs and posted a .303 batting average.

 | Sunday, August 30th, 2009: Soria Injured, out of Lineup
"I'm frustrated right now," said Indianapolis closer Joakim Soria. "I can't help this team by sitting on the bench or in the training room." Unfortunately for the Engines, that's where he will be spending the next 1-2 weeks. Soria suffered biceps tendinitis in today's game against Los Angeles while throwing a pitch. "Believe me," he said, "I won't be out a day longer than I have to be."
In 2009, Soria has notched 21 saves. In 43 relief appearances, he has 37 strikeouts in 47 innings with a 1.72 ERA. His season won-lost mark is 3-1.
